Our IT Grads perspective

Shadi Ghaoui - Cyber Security Specialist Program 2021 Grad
After five, rewarding years working in Woolworth’s supermarkets, it was hard to imagine moving on to a different organisation. Finding a career within my field of study and in a company that I’d developed quite an attachment with, felt like the obvious next step. I look most forward to networking and creating valuable connections with my colleagues throughout the course of my graduate program.

Carmen Ma - Associate BA People Systems 2019 Grad
The best experiences that I've had during my program were when I was directly working with team members on projects that were going to have tangible positive impacts on their day to day lives - while being supported by a capable and dedicated team. My rotation in People Systems was one example of such an experience, and I've been lucky enough to be provided with the opportunity to pursue a role within People Systems that aligns with a career path that I see myself working towards. The grad program equipped me with the tools and learnings that I'll now take into this next role, as well as the clarity needed for me to decide on the direction that I want to go in at this stage in my career.

Jess Tran - Associate Business Analyst - 2019 Grad
Early on during the graduate program, I had the opportunity to attend an external conference for Salesforce. It was a really eye-opening experience to see all the capabilities and use-cases there were for the platform and was definitely what sparked my initial interest. Having done multiple rotations and exploring the various roles/domains, I found that I was always deep-diving into further details during projects. I loved communicating with the stakeholders and helping them where possible, it always felt amazing when I was able to see the end impacts that I was making. I was also able to work on several projects using Salesforce which help to solidify my interest.

I was very fortunate to be able to work with so many people in various teams during my rotations, which helped to shape my understanding of Woolworths Group IT, and how they are all interrelated. I made it a personal goal to speak to individuals during these rotations as well as exploring the career maps in order to gain perspective. Though I can't say this is the definite career path I will forever continue on, I can definitely say that this is an amazing place to start. It's a growing space and I'm only in the first chapter.

Our Property Grads Perspective

Peta Byram - Property Grad Program 2019

The Woolworths Graduate Program has been an amazing experience! Working with and being mentored by leading property professionals opened my eyes to the vast careers in property and developed my skills in real life situations. As part of the program, I was given the opportunity to work on a live development project and see first hand the change we can make in a community. Being part of this centre’s transformation was an incredibly proud moment of mine as a Woolworths graduate.

Jonathon Mathews - Property Grad Program 2019

The Woolworths Graduate program changed my life! I have had the opportunity to work across four different teams throughout my rotations which has helped me gain a deeper insight into the intricacies of the business and develop my skills as a property professional. Having now rotated off the graduate program into an Assistant Development Manager Role, I feel competent and confident to manage projects at all stages of the developments we undertake.

Working with experienced and passionate professionals throughout the program who genuinely valued your career development, skills and opinions was a fantastic experience. They really allow graduates to take on as much responsibility as they want to help build your knowledge base to ensure you are competent at the conclusion of the program. It was incredible to be challenged to move beyond my comfort zone and learn how to manage a project from start to finish.

Woolworths is so much more than a company that sells groceries, it is dedicated to supporting the community in times of need, as well as encouraging and fostering young team members and graduates to become the best version of themselves. Having seen the way Woolworths stepped up to the plate in the recent Australian Bush Fires and Pandemic, I felt an overwhelming sense of pride to work for such a community focused business.

"Getting exposure to the different areas of property and working with some of the most experienced property professionals, has led to a role within the company which will further my career within the property industry"
Catherine

Our Customer Transformation Grad Perspective

Benjamin Cant - Customer Transformation Grad 2019

At the start of my Grad program (Customer Transformation), I worked with the Customer Insights team, conducting quantitative and qualitative customer research to inform strategic and tactical business decisions and continue delivering a great customer experience. I was able to work on research projects for Health, Sustainability (paper bags trials), Marketing (Discovery Garden project) and several other teams. As of August 2020 I have joined the Group permanently as a Strategy Analyst within the Supermarkets Strategy team.

Some of my best experiences in Strategy have been:

  • Developing the F21 Strategy for Woolworths Food Group and pivoting the strategy during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Evolving our Climate Change Strategy, to meet our sustainability commitments, build resilience against CC through our value chain and use our scale for good beyond our operations
  • Analysing customer and industry trends in the next generation of retail, and translating these into implications and a strategy for Woolworths

I joined this Grad program because Woolworths is a business that aligns with my values, and I could see that it cares for and invests in it's people.
