Our IT Grads perspective

Gabrielle Raymundo - Cyber Security Specialist Program 2020 Grad

What I valued most about the graduate experience was being able to actively shape my program to my interests and development goals. Before joining the graduate program, I was undecided about my future career path and made it a personal goal to challenge myself to explore the different possibilities within the business, specifically in Cyber Security.  Having the opportunity to cocreate my graduate program with my Grad Manager allowed me to gain exposure to the different parts of the business, expand my technical and interpersonal skills, and connect with an extremely supportive network.  During my rotations in the Cyber Security team, I was able to push myself outside my comfort zone and ended up developing skills in data analysis, user experience, and security incident response, which wouldn’t be possible without the flexibility of the program

Working in a large business such as Woolworths Group means that the technology is always evolving, and in turn, Cyber Security does the same. Experiencing the different teams in Cyber Security helped me gain exposure to the emerging technologies in our ecosystem, build a holistic view of the different functions in Technology, and understand where I could bring value to the business.

At the end of my program, I was motivated to pursue a role in the security operations centre, an option I would’ve never thought possible before starting the Woolworths graduate program. Through the broad range of rotations I’ve had throughout my program, I was able to diversify my skillset, giving me the confidence and clarity to choose an exciting career path.  From the plethora of training resources to the supportive mentors I’ve worked with, I’m grateful for all the opportunities as well as the connections I’ve made along the way. I would definitely recommend choosing the Woolworths Group Technology Graduate Program to anyone starting their career as it is an exciting place to immerse yourself in a variety of technology roles, experience a supportive and purpose-led work culture, and shape your own career path.

Our Legal Grads perspective

Joyce Yang - Legal Graduate

I chose the Woolworths graduate program because I wanted interesting and varied experience within my area of interest, corporate and commercial law. I cannot commend the graduate program enough - so far, it has exceeded my expectations and provided me with exposure to legal issues more fascinating and challenging than I could have imagined. Joining the graduate program has been a unique and valuable opportunity to dive head first into the law and explore how it applies in every possible context, while being supported by a large team of lawyers with extensive top-tier and in-house experience. No two days are the same - I am working on a supplier contract one day, a dispute the next day, then one of the biggest demergers in Australian corporate history the day after. For me, the most exciting aspect of the graduate program is that the work I'm involved in is hands-on and I'm encouraged to think outside the box to solve real problems - there's nothing more rewarding than contributing to tangible solutions for the business and our customers.

Woolworths has also been incredibly supportive of my growth as a young legal professional, including by partnering with Ashurst to guide me through my Practical Legal Training, and providing me with an opportunity to rotate through a top-tier law firm. I'm grateful to work for a company that believes in its graduates and invests in equipping us with the technical and soft skills that will set us up for success.

Lisa Huang - Legal Graduate

What initially drew me to work at Woolworths was the unique opportunity to work in-house across diverse legal areas and to be able to develop and apply my skills in a tangible way. From the start, Woolworths has delivered on this and more - providing challenges, opportunities and work that I couldn't have expected.

I've been fortunate to work across diverse business and legal areas including competition, trade, supply chain, general merchandise and digital and data alongside not just brilliant and technically capable lawyers, but also friendly and caring colleagues.

I'm grateful for the opportunities and amazing environment I've been able to experience through the Woolworths graduate program and would encourage anybody looking to develop their legal career in an interesting and unique way to consider applying.

Our Property Grads Perspective

Peta Byram - Property Grad Program 2019

The Woolworths Graduate Program has been an amazing experience! Working with and being mentored by leading property professionals opened my eyes to the vast careers in property and developed my skills in real life situations. As part of the program, I was given the opportunity to work on a live development project and see first hand the change we can make in a community. Being part of this centre’s transformation was an incredibly proud moment of mine as a Woolworths graduate.

Jonathon Mathews - Property Grad Program 2019

The Woolworths Graduate program changed my life! I have had the opportunity to work across four different teams throughout my rotations which has helped me gain a deeper insight into the intricacies of the business and develop my skills as a property professional. Having now rotated off the graduate program into an Assistant Development Manager Role, I feel competent and confident to manage projects at all stages of the developments we undertake.

Working with experienced and passionate professionals throughout the program who genuinely valued your career development, skills and opinions was a fantastic experience. They really allow graduates to take on as much responsibility as they want to help build your knowledge base to ensure you are competent at the conclusion of the program. It was incredible to be challenged to move beyond my comfort zone and learn how to manage a project from start to finish.

Woolworths is so much more than a company that sells groceries, it is dedicated to supporting the community in times of need, as well as encouraging and fostering young team members and graduates to become the best version of themselves. Having seen the way Woolworths stepped up to the plate in the recent Australian Bush Fires and Pandemic, I felt an overwhelming sense of pride to work for such a community focused business.
